Weights & Accents
A common theme during my trucking career has been being humbled by the seemingly small accessories that my truck needs to ensure that the larger parts are performing at their highest capacity. Semi-truck mud flap weights are a prime example of that. I always assumed that mud flaps were supposed to flap since it makes up half of the name, but the whole purpose of the flap weights is to hold the flaps in place. When the flaps move less, they are able to push away debris rather than retain it.
Mud Flaps For All
Anyone who knows me knows that I love finding inexpensive options to make my truck more practical and, of course, represent more of my personality. Iowa 80 is a great resource for mud flap accents in many distinctive styles, ranging from
LED chrome top to flames and catchy slogans. I admit, the chrome mud flap weights have proven to be a good investment for me, personally, because they are on the cheaper side without compromising function.
Finding the Right Fit
Even though mud flaps will work fine without the addition of the mud flap weights, I definitely recommend at least giving a basic pair a try. Not only has it cut back the amount of gunk that builds up, but it’s allowed me to add a bit more flare to my truck. Someday I might add custom mud flap weights. It probably won’t be tomorrow or next week, but I know that when I do take that plunge, it will be one heck of a ride.
