A common theme during my trucking career has been being humbled by the seemingly small accessories that my truck needs to ensure that the larger parts are performing at their highest capacity. Semi-truck mud flap weights are a prime example of that. I always assumed that mud flaps were supposed to flap since it makes up half of the name, but the whole purpose of the flap weights is to hold the flaps in place. When the flaps move less, they are able to push away debris rather than retain it.

Even though mud flaps will work fine without the addition of the mud flap weights, it's definitely recommended to at least give a basic pair a try. Not only will it cut back the amount of gunk that builds up, but it allow you to add a bit more flare to my truck.
